The Role
The role of Assistant Accountant belongs to the Finance team in the Finance, Infrastructure and Digital Technology directorate. We have 5 office campuses across the state and this role will be based at our West Leederville Office.
This is a full-time, ongoing position commencing as soon as practically possible.
As an Assistant Accountant, you will be responsible for providing financial and management accounting services and financial administration services for Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA).
The primary accountabilities for this role include but are not limited to:
- Assist with financial and management reporting including preparation of manual journals as required.
- Prepare Bank Reconciliations as required.
- Assist with the reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
- Provide assistance to credit card management and accounting process.
- Assist the external auditors, accountants and liaise with the relevant government departments with the acquittal of grants and programs.
- Prepare audit work papers for relevant grants and programs to enable auditors to conduct their audit in an efficient and timely manner.
- Assist with the completion of the CEWA Ltd Fringe Benefits Tax (‘FBT’) Return.
- Assist with taxation research for the office as required
- Provide end to end Accounts Receivable functions for CEWA Limited (including creating, amending, receipting and following up the payment of invoices)
- Provide assistance on all finance team functions, as directed.
- Provide financial and administration assistance to other team members as required.

Selection Criteria
- ESSENTIAL:
- Prepared to support the Catholic ethos in the performance of their duties.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office software packages.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and to prioritise work functions.
- Ability to take initiative, be proactive and self-directed.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work within a team.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Highly organised and able to demonstrate sound judgement, confidentiality and discretion.
- Commitment to the objective and ethos of Catholic Education Western Australia.
- HIGHLY DESIRABLE:

- Currently enrolled or working towards achieving a professional accounting degree (CA/CPA)
- Previous experience in a financial accounting role.
- Previous experience in working in a large organisation
