St Mary MacKillop College is a Catholic co-educational College located in the south-west town of Busselton, approximately 200 kilometres south of Perth. The College was formed in 2016 following the amalgamation of St Joseph’s School and MacKillop Catholic College, and now caters for more than 1500 students from Pre-Kindy to Year 12.


The College aspires to deliver quality, holistic education for all students, which is grounded in the Catholic tradition and in the spirit of Mary MacKillop to “Choose Life with Courage’’. A strong focus on pastoral care is integral to the College’s culture, as is the nurturing of lifelong learning, challenging individuals to explore and develop their unique personal gifts and encouraging excellence in all areas of school life.


The College offers a wide range of courses to meet the needs of all students, with equal focus placed on developing study pathways to University, TAFE and the workforce. In addition to the Duties and Responsibilities of Principals, the community is seeking a principal who:

  • promotes the Catholic Identity of the College through its vision, mission, charism of
    St Mary Mackillop and educational goals, providing opportunities for students to reflect on Catholic faith and values
  • is an innovative and instructional leader with a strong pedagogical knowledge across Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12, demonstrated through a holistic, diverse, and inclusive curriculum and pastoral program
  • is visible and accessible across all areas of the College, developing and maintaining positive relationships with students, staff and families, with a strong emphasis on supporting student and staff wellbeing
  • is a contemporary and visionary leader who empowers others and provides a wide range of academic pathways that cater for the needs of all students
  • leads a model of professional practice that involves collaboration with others in bringing about whole College improvement and professional growth and development


To be considered for this outstanding leadership opportunity, potential candidates must be practising Catholics and experienced educators committed to the objectives and ethos of Catholic Education.

You must have:

  • A minimum four year tertiary qualification although it would be advantageous to demonstrate significant progress towards a Masters degree or higher
  • Accreditation for Leadership of a Catholic School Community or its equivalent
  • Current TRBWA and Working with Children requirements

  • Referees ( Please include three (3) professional referees: a person with whom you are currently working, a person with whom you have worked in the past two to five years, and a current employer or superior. In addition, please include mobile phone contact details of your parish priest for the purpose of him being contacted for a verbal reference. Send a copy of the attached Referee Report to each of your 3 professional referees and ask them to return the report to by the closing date. Parish priests are not required to submit a written reference.
  • Write a Cover Letter succinctly addressing the school context as advised through the School Criteria listed in the Web Advertisement. This should be a maximum of three pages.
