For more than 150 years, Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) has supported schools and communities across the state. Today, we are Western Australia's second-largest education provider, supporting more than 84,500 students through a network of schools and nearly 14,000 staff.

 

We're seeking a Coordinator Catechist Services to join our Catechist Services team within the Religious Education directorate.

 

The Coordinator Catechist Services leads CEWA's Catechist Services team, providing strategic leadership, formation, training and resources that support parish-based religious education programs for children not enrolled in Catholic schools. The role has a significant impact on faith formation across Western Australia, working closely with parish priests, catechist coordinators, catechists, CEWA leaders and Church stakeholders to strengthen and grow evangelising catechesis. It is an exciting opportunity for a passionate Catholic leader to shape the future of catechesis, influence faith formation initiatives at a state and national level, and make a lasting difference in the lives of children, families and parish communities.

 

This is a 1.0FTE ongoing position commencing 1 January 2026.

About the Role

 

Success in this role is demonstrated through strong leadership of the Catechist Services team, the delivery of high-quality faith formation programs and resources, and the development of effective partnerships with parishes and Church stakeholders. A successful Coordinator empowers catechists through formation and support, strengthens religious education across communities, and contributes to a vibrant culture of evangelising catechesis that positively impacts children, families and parish communities throughout Western Australia.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Commitment to, promotion of and nurturing the distinctive goals and identity of the Catholic faith and Tradition.
  • Leading the work of the Catechist team.
  • Providing strategic leadership for the Catechist team.
  • Coordinating and consulting with Parish Priests and Catechist Coordinators who organise and conduct the Parish Religious Education Program.
  • Providing opportunities for initial and ongoing training in religious education, pedagogy and faith formation for Catechists.
  • Developing curriculum and resources for passing on the faith.
  • Representing CEWA and Catechist Services at Archdiocesan and national forums.
  • Staying abreast of current developments in Catechesis.
  • Supporting policy development for the Catechist Service.
  • Establishing and promoting effective networks at local, state and national levels to cultivate a culture of evangelising catechesis

 


 

About You

 

The ideal candidate is a faith-filled and experienced leader with a strong background in Catholic education, catechesis and faith formation. They are highly skilled at building relationships, leading and developing teams, and engaging diverse stakeholders, while bringing a passion for supporting parishes and empowering catechists to share the faith. With excellent communication, strategic thinking and leadership capabilities, they are committed to strengthening faith formation opportunities and advancing the mission of Catholic education across Western Australia.

 

 

Essential requirements:

 

1. Prepared to support the Catholic ethos in the performance of their duties.

2. Demonstrated commitment to the Catholic faith and active participation in the Catholic faith community.

3. Tertiary qualifications in Theology, Religious Education, Scripture, Spirituality or a related discipline.

4. Significant senior leadership experience in Catholic education, parish ministry, religious education or faith formation.

5. Extensive knowledge and experience in catechesis, adult faith formation and religious education.

6. Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.

7. Proven capacity to influence and engage a broad range of stakeholders.

 

Highly regarded:

 

  • Postgraduate qualifications in Theology, Religious Education, Leadership or a related field.
