The Role
The role of Data Engineer belongs to the Application Development team in the Finance, Infrastructure and Digital Technology directorate. We have 5 office campuses across the state and this role will be based at our West Leederville office.
We are seeking 2 full-time ongoing Data Engineers commencing in late March 2026.
The Data Engineer is responsible for maintaining cloud data platforms and data warehouses while designing and building strategic data products.
The Primary accountabilities of this role include but and not limited to:
• Apply Human-Centered Design tools & skills to ensure effective UX and high-quality UI in data products, using Figma and other design tools.
• Build and maintain strategic data products which conform to CEWA’s business and non-functional requirements, using Power BI and other front-end technologies.
• Manage and maintain existing ETL frameworks, cloud data platform components, working with Azure SQL, Databricks and Azure Data Factory.
• Perform complex data analysis and reporting using SQL, DAX, Python, Power BI and other technologies.
• Implement automated tests as part of all data product builds.
• Utilise appropriate AI and ML tools and processes during the SDLC and within product features.
• Commit to the delivery of a suitable level of documentation, including Data Definitions, Product & Process Descriptions, Support Wikis, etc.
• Ensure a high Cybersecurity focus in all stages of the SDLC.

Selection Criteria
A. ESSENTIAL:
1. Prepared to support the Catholic ethos in the performance of their duties.
2. 2+ years of experience working as a Data Engineer or equivalent, with Databricks or equivalent technologies.
3. 2+ years developing BI reports and Dashboards in Power BI.
4. Strong programming skills and technical experience for data manipulation and management using PySpark, T/SQL and DAX.
5. Understanding of modern data engineering technologies.
6. Strong Understanding of Kimball methodology and other data modelling patterns.
7. Strong visualization skills with proven ability to harness the full functionality of Power BI.
8. Experience Optimising Azure/Power BI data solutions.
9. Experience working within a product delivery team, using agile values and principles, lean-startup thinking and/or Hypothesis-Driven Development.
