The Role

 

The role of Literacy Consultant belongs to the Curriculum team in the Teaching and Learning directorate. We have 5 office campuses across the state and this role will be based at our West Leederville office.

 

This is a full-time ongoing position commencing as soon as possible.

 

The Literacy Consultant is responsible for providing leadership and build capacity of teaching and leaders in Catholic schools in the area of Literacy.

 

Primary Accountabilities include:

  • Support school and system initiatives aligned with CECWA’s Strategic Initiatives and Quality Catholic Education.
  • Lead and support school and system initiatives aligned with CEWA’s Vision for Learning, Literacy Position Statement and Literacy Frameworks towards ensuring high standards in Literacy.
  • Work in collaboration with CEWA consultants in building capacity in the area of Literacy.
  • Work in collaboration with Religious Education consultants in fostering quality Catholic Education.
  • Support school leadership teams and teachers in building capacity in schools to embed effective Literacy strategies in schools.
  • Support school leadership teams to establish and support professional learning networks within and across schools.
  • Stay abreast with current research in Literacy.
  • Facilitate professional learning.
  • Support school personnel to interpret and utilise school and system student attainment data to ensure high quality teaching and learning.
  • Support schools in discerning and implementing intervention strategies in Literacy.
  • Model and support the use of digital technologies in enhancing the teaching and learning in the area of Literacy.
  • Maintain effective partnerships with other education systems and organisations and provide representation that will inform future planning and provide advocacy for Catholic Education.
  • Other duties as directed by the Team Leader Curriculum and Director Teaching and Learning.

Selection Criteria

 

A.        ESSENTIAL:

 

  1. Prepared to support the Catholic ethos in the performance of their duties.
  2. Commitment to CEWA’s Vision for Learning, Literacy Position Statement and Literacy Frameworks. 
  3. Knowledge and understanding of pedagogical practice in early childhood literacy.
  4. Recent school-based experience with a history of exemplary teaching in early childhood literacy.
  5. Excellent knowledge of current issues, initiatives, and research in literacy.
  6. Excellent practical and theoretical experience with data analysis. 
  7. Capacity to work with school leaders and teachers in the area of Literacy. 
  8. Highly developed organisational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to work as part of a team. 
  9. Ability to show initiative and be proactive. 
  10. Highly developed skills in digital technologies. 
  11. Experience in delivering quality professional learning.  
  12. Capacity to develop and maintain strong professional relationships. 
  13. Capacity to work as a positive and supportive member of the Curriculum Team. 

 

  1. A current National Police History Check as issued by the Department of Education Western Australia.
  2. Current TRBWA and Working with Children Check. 
  3. A willingness to travel to and work in regional and remote locations.
