For more than 150 years, Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) has supported schools and communities across the state. Today, we are Western Australia's second-largest education provider, supporting more than 84,500 students through a network of schools and nearly 14,000 staff.

 

We're seeking a Literacy Consultant to join our Curriculum team within the Teaching and Learning directorate.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to influence literacy outcomes for students across Catholic Education Western Australia by leading strategic initiatives that empower schools, educators, and leaders to deliver high-quality literacy instruction. Working closely with principals, leadership teams, teachers, CEWA consultants, and Religious Education colleagues, you will build capability, facilitate professional learning, and drive evidence-informed practices that make a meaningful difference in classrooms. This is a 1.0FTE ongoing position commencing 4 January 2027.

About the Role

 

The successful candidate will build the capability of school leaders, teachers, and consultants through high-quality professional learning, collaborative partnerships, and evidence-informed practices. They will use data strategically to guide decision-making, support continuous improvement, and ensure literacy initiatives have a measurable and lasting impact on student learning.

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Lead and support school and system initiatives aligned with CEWA’s Vision for Learning, Literacy Position Statement and Literacy Frameworks towards ensuring high standards in Literacy.
  • Work in collaboration with CEWA consultants in building capacity in the area of Literacy.
  • Work in collaboration with Religious Education consultants in fostering quality Catholic Education.
  • Support school leadership teams and teachers in building capacity in schools to embed effective Literacy strategies in schools.
  • Support school leadership teams to establish and support professional learning networks within and across schools.
  • Stay abreast with current research in Literacy.
  • Facilitate professional learning.
  • Support school personnel to interpret and utilise school and system student attainment data to ensure high quality teaching and learning.

 


About You

 

The ideal candidate is an experienced and collaborative literacy leader with a strong commitment to CEWA's Vision for Learning and a passion for improving student outcomes. They bring deep expertise in evidence-based literacy practices, the ability to use data to drive improvement, and a proven track record of building the capability of school leaders and teachers through professional learning and strategic support.

 

Essential requirements:

 

  • Prepared to support the Catholic ethos in the performance of their duties.
  • Commitment to CEWA’s Vision for Learning, Literacy Position Statement and Literacy Frameworks. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of pedagogical practice in literacy.
  • Recent school-based experience with a history of exemplary teaching in early childhood literacy.
  • Excellent knowledge of current issues, initiatives, and research in literacy.
  • Excellent practical and theoretical experience with data analysis. 
  • Capacity to work with school leaders and teachers in the area of Literacy. 
  • Highly developed organisational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to work as part of a team.
