The Catholic Education Office operates across five locations within the dioceses of Broome, Geraldton, Perth, and Bunbury. Within our People and Culture Directorate, our teams play a vital role in shaping and supporting our diverse workforce. These include Human Resources, Employment Relations, Talent, Payroll Services, and Work Health and Safety. The Payroll Services team, comprising 20 skilled professionals, delivers a complex and high-volume payroll service year round.

We are seeking a strategic and experienced leader to drive the overall direction of payroll operations. In this role, you will lead, develop, and manage the Payroll Services team to enhance service delivery and ensure continuous improvement. You will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and industrial instruments, maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness.

Your skills and experience

  • Demonstrated success in providing effective leadership and strategic direction to a Payroll Services team.
  • Extensive experience in fostering a culture of innovation, learning, development, and continuous improvement within payroll operations.
  • Skilled in change management, specifically leading the team and other stakeholders through change and ensuring effective change management communication.
  • Proven ability to drive and contribute to significant projects, collaborating with cross-organisational teams to modernise systems and processes. CEWA are currently undertaking a large scale HRIS project which involves an integration between Workday and Ascender/Dayforce. Experience with these platforms would be advantageous.
  • Expertise in monitoring and evaluating processes to ensure the integrity and efficiency of systems.
  • Strong capability in overseeing the generation and delivery of accurate reporting.
  • Experience in defining and managing the strategic direction of the payroll function to align with organisational goals.
  • Commitment to ensuring timely and accurate employee payments in compliance with legislative requirements and relevant industrial instruments.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, industrial instruments, policies, procedures, and system initiatives.
  • Strong collaboration and change management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to partner with internal and external stakeholders to enhance service delivery and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
